The Polochon Earring is a sculptural jewel by Paola Vilas, born from the theatrical and playful universe of Polochon, a papier-mâché creature with multiple heads, created by Lina Bo Bardi for the play Ubi. Folias Phisycas e Musicaes, staged by Ornitorrinco Theater in 1985.
To reinterpret this gesture in jewelry, Paola Vilas created small wearable sculptures in which each piece features a polochon made up of five set pink sapphires, evoking the symbolic form of the original object. The pink tone of the gemstones pays homage to the palette Lina assigned to Polochon in its original version.
The result blends humor and sculpture in an unexpected balance. By transforming a theatrical character into jewelry, Paola brings Lina’s imaginative theatrical world closer to the intimate gesture of dressing, expanding her narrative in a singular way.
This jewel is part of an official collaboration with the Bardi Institute.

The gold plating is a thin layer over the silver, so contact with various surfaces, exposure to chemical substances in creams and perfumes, and even the skin’s natural pH can act as a polishing agent or react with the fine layer, gradually removing it and revealing the 925 Silver underneath. When the gold plating wears off, the piece can be replated or cleaned for use as Sterling Silver.
