The Oval Window Ring is a sculptural jewel by Paola Vilas that translates, through form and material, one of the most iconic elements of architect Lina Bo Bardi’s work: her organic windows, which shaped not only light, but also perspective and the relationship between inside and outside.
Inspired by the irregular openings of SESC Pompéia in São Paulo and the reinterpreted mashrabiyas of Ladeira da Misericórdia in Salvador, the piece features asymmetrical shapes that break with traditional rigidity as if drawn by hand. More than mere adornment, the ring acts as a wearable frame, revealing the skin as an essential part of the composition.
In the Windows collection, empty space plays as central a role as the metal itself. Each hollowed curve reflects Lina Bo Bardi’s thoughts on space and transparency, transforming architectural concepts into bodily sculptures.
This jewel is part of an official collaboration with the Instituto Bardi.
Materials: 925 sterling silver or 925 silver with 18k gold plating
Approximate dimensions: 26.2mm x 22.6mm x 22.2mm.
Important Notice:
All 18k gold-plated 925 sterling silver jewelry requires special care and may show changes in appearance over time. Gold plating is a thin layer over the silver base; therefore, contact with various surfaces, exposure to chemicals found in creams and perfumes, and even the natural pH of the skin can act as a polish or reactant, gradually wearing away the gold and revealing the silver underneath. When the gold layer fades, it is possible to replate the piece or clean it for use as sterling silver.
